August puts three pressures on a Florida pool at the same time: peak ultraviolet radiation that burns off free chlorine, near daily afternoon storms that dilute your chemistry and dump organic debris into the water, and the heaviest bather load of the year. The answer is not simply more chlorine. It is more frequent testing, disciplined circulation, and a repeatable routine after every storm.

2. Check your pool after every storm
Storm debris is a chlorine demand event, not just a cosmetic problem. Leaves, pollen, mulch and fertiliser runoff all consume sanitiser as they decompose. Work through this within 24 hours of the storm passing.
Post storm checklist
- Empty the skimmer baskets and the pump strainer basket. A blocked basket starves the pump and can cause it to run dry.
- Remove floating and settled debris before it breaks down and stains the surface.
- Brush the walls, steps and waterline, paying attention to shaded corners where algae starts.
- Retest the water. Expect diluted chlorine and stabiliser, and a pH shift.
- Check the water level and lower it if the pool has overflowed past the skimmer throat.

3. Maintain the correct water level
The target is roughly the midpoint of the skimmer opening, about halfway up the tile line on most pools.
Too low and the skimmer draws air, which causes the pump to lose prime and can damage the seal and motor. 4. Keep the water circulating
